LHS Yard Birds

When Liberty High School updated their blue jay head logo in 2015, they also needed to update their “yard birds,” the large, wooden birds placed in front yards marking the home as the home of a student. These birds can be customized with props such as basketballs, footballs, etc., as well as instruments, music notes, pom poms, and so much more to indicate a student’s involvement in a specific club or organization. I had the pleasure of designing this full body image based on the new logo.

L is for...

The point of this exercise was to draw a random letter and illustrate an object that begins with that letter. After drawing the letter L, I chose to illustrate legos and the loser symbol because they fit well with my lively and playful nature.

The Evolution of Britney Spears

As an illustrative exercise, I created multiple Britney Spears graphics illustrating different stages and iconic looks throughout her career. I highlighted memorable music videos, awards shows, album covers, and her famed breakdown in 2007.

I used the different illustrations to create a visual timeline of her career, from her first album in 1998 to her seventh album in 2011. In the future, I would love to revisit this project to add more about the #FreeBritney movement, her long-awaited release from an exploitative conservatorship in 2021, and the release of her 2023 memoir “The Woman In Me.” Lastly, when I originally started this project, I wanted to focus mainly on Britney’s career highlights, however, with the addition of her conservatorship and memoir, I would also love to include Britney’s iconic 2001 American Music Awards Canadian tuxedo look with then-boyfriend, Justin Timberlake.

To this day, illustration is one of my biggest challenges in design, so even though the project was for fun and is one of the older projects in my portfolio, I’m still incredibly proud of it and love to revisit it when possible.

Western Esotericism

A project in my illustration class focused on western esotericism. We were asked to design the four elements – water, air, earth, and fire, using only black and white imagery.

In the final images, I started by incorporating symbols or textures into phases of the moon that correspond to each element. Air and water symbols were easy as they gave me ample space to decorate with symbols, but I had to get creative with earth and fire textures, as new and full moons are not as distinct in shape.

Element Research

I did extensive research into the different elements and jotted down nearly every word I could think of pertaining to each in a mind map.

During my search, I discovered that each of the elements has numerous symbols and imagery tied to them. I explored the connection to specific angels, mythical creatures, and shapes. I even played around with illustrations of how each element could affect other objects, such as the relationship between fire and a piece of toast or the effect of wind on a kite.
