Skills and Specialties

Branding

The majority of my work has revolved around creating or adhering to logo and brand standards. The best branding is memorable and easily recognizable, which is what I strive for in my design.

Print and Layout

Publication design is one of my personal favorite genres of design. I was part of my newspaper and yearbook staffs in high school, and to this day I feel most at home in InDesign.

Social Media Marketing

Through a few volunteer projects, I have been able to explore the commercial and promotional side of social media, and have enjoyed the thrill of an effective campaign. In the future, I hope to continue growing my marketing and commercial social media experience.

Web Design

In addition to print layout design, I enjoy the web design genre for similar reasons. I like the challenge of catching the reader’s attention and guiding the audience’s eye in a way that logically relays information.

Apparel Design

I have experience in both mass and made-to-order apparel. At Hanes, I worked primarily in mass apparel, however, I’ve also design small-batch apparel for numerous other organization and fulfilled the orders through local print shops.

Illustration

Most of my illustrations are from personal projects or simply for fun, but I always enjoy incorporating illustration into other projects when appropriate.

Introduction and Interests

Hi! I’m Amanda. I discovered my love for design while on the newspaper and yearbook staffs in high school and have been hooked ever since. My experience with the two programs gave me a love of layout design, especially in web and publication forms, but I’ve also enjoyed my experiences with branding and UX/UI design.

Outside of design, I enjoy reading, cooking, and exploring Kansas City with my friends. I can often be found at the dog park with my pup, Fergus. He was a Halloween baby, so I thrive on finding fun and interesting costume combos where I can involve him. My favorite so far has been Merida and King Fergus from Brave, mostly because I got to dress him in a kilt and it was adorable.

Education and Goals

My undergraduate education was completed at Drury University. I graduated cum laude with a degree in Graphic and Digital Design, and minors in Fine Arts and Web Communication and Design. The projects I worked on in my courses were diverse in nature, covering illustration, typography, prototyping, and composition. In addition to design skills, I have training in marketing and branding, basic coding, and fine arts. I worked on projects that implemented design in other fields; such as psychology, multimedia production, and communication. These opportunities taught me how to adapt to client needs and find unconventional ways to connect with their target audience.

In the short term, my goal is to continue to gain valuable experience as a designer in a professional environment. In the long term, I’d like to one day become a creative director and lead my own team of designers. I hope to further hone my communication and leadership skills, as well as expand on my technical design skills.
